Polynesian Drumming and Fire Dancing
K surprised us with an excursion to learn Polynesian drumming and fire dancing. We spent two hours with a local guide who taught us various traditional drumbeats and introduced us to fire dancing. We made a short video you can watch on our channel. The evening was so much fun and we were both amazed at how brave the kids were and how quickly they picked it up. H and I learned to use poi balls, while K and C practiced on the fire knife. I did fine with the practice poi balls, but once they were lit I was skittish and kept hitting myself with them. They kids weren’t phased by the addition of fire. When we rode back to our place, we couldn’t figure out what we were smelling in the car. It turns out it was K’s singed arm hairs, the only causality of the evening.
